V
Just saw V for Vendetta and I must confess I had my doubts, but luckily I was wrong on several accounts. I can't recall the last time I saw a Hollywood film which such a great tag line:
"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."
A hero that is a terrorist. A planned act of terrorism that actually is not foiled but succeeds. An ideal that words and actions can change the world. Not to forget the great and very truthful theory that the government in the film (i.e. the British/US government) created a self inflicted wound on its own people to divide in order to conquer them (i.e. 9/11).
The film is based on Alan Moore’s graphic novel and penned for the screen by the Wachowski Brothers who, although strayed a bit, did a good job I think considering the difficulty adapting one medium into another. So go see it and let's meet up afterwards to discuss which parliament we should blow up first.

My boyfriend worked at a comic shop and read the origional comics. He wants to see it, but was put off by the fact that the posters read "based on magazines published by Vertigo Books." Usually thats a sign that the origional author dosn't want his name associated with the film. As it turns out, Alan Moore (writer, and Occultist ;) ) has spacifically
distanced himself from it. I still look forward to seeing it, and reading the origional comics.
excuse me, *original* there's no place to edit your comment if you make a mistake. My bad.
